Love it or hate it, social media is here to stay so why not embrace its power (at least a little) and use it to help your business. When used correctly, social media can be a great tool to increase brand awareness, engage with your audience, and even generate leads.

Now before you roll your eyes entirely – because I know I’m not the first – or last person to tell you to USE SOCIAL MEDIA… I want you to consider the following.

First, when someone hears about a company the very first thing they do is look them up. And social media is a typical place to start. But why? The reason why so many trust social media is because it consists of mostly uncensored, raw information about a business in the form of reviews, comments, etc. And depending on your exact niche upwards of 2 in 3 prospective customers determine whether or not to engage in a sales conversation based on your social media. So taking control of your business’s narrative can benefit you greatly.

And it all starts by optimizing your public-facing communications and creating a comprehensive digital marketing strategy with a strong social media component.

Social media can provide your audience a chance to have a more casual and closer look at your company. From celebrating team members, promoting services or showcasing recent projects, social media allows customers a behind-the-curtain look into what your company does which can help determine if you are the right fit for the job!

However, when I say ‘audience’, I want to clarify, you need to tailor your overall message to a specific group. This specific audience should be those you ideally want to work with. The more specific the better.

But before you go too far, remember you should have a unifying message across all platforms you’re on so you don’t confuse folks. Each platform may present your message in a slightly different way, but overall, it’s the same everywhere.

From Facebook to Instagram, TikTok and Youtube you have a wide variety of options on how you want to market your business using Social Media. For showcasing projects and engaging with your audience, Facebook and Instagram are great. For how to’s and quick tips TikTok and YouTube are perfect. And if you want to showcase your knowledge and build clout, LinkedIn is a great place to do just that.

Keep in mind that while this all might seem like a lot, social media is a powerful tool that you should always consider having in your marketing plan. However, with great power comes great responsibility. (sorry had too) Before you create profiles on every social platform out there, remember this: you don’t need to (or should) be on every social media platform.

Be selective. It’s best to select a few that are going to benefit your business based on the overall size of your company and where your audience hangs out most. Once you have those selected, optimize and manage them closely so you can reap the benefits of a great social media presence.
