What are other ways I can market my business?
Posted May 11, 2020 | Updated 5 years ago
I heard this question again just the other day. The business owner was getting ready to send out a mailing to promote his business but wanted to know what else he might be able to do. His question was a good one. McDonalds doesn’t advertise every day because they are afraid you’ll forget who they are. They do it so they’ll be top of mind when you’re ready.
Businesses need to market themself continually, and in multiple ways if they hope to be found. Word of mouth will only go so far.
For example:
A house painter might send an EDDM postcard to promote his business to a particular neighborhood because of the age of the homes and income of the owners. He keeps his website current and relevant so when they search for more information about the company they can find what they need. He might include photos of his recent projects on his Google My Business page. He has yard signs to place at the home of his project so neighbors can see. And he might have the painters take door hangers to nearby homes at the end of the day.
As restrictions are being lifted and we begin to enter the new normal, businesses need to look for ways to get the word out that they are open for business.
Below are some ideas you might try.
Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM) – may be the best option for a local business trying to reach a nearby neighborhood. Some of the most inexpensive postal rates.
Direct Mail – good when you know your prospect demographics. You can use your mailing list or purchase one. It allows you to more directly target potential customers.
Flyers – easy for distribution to promote your business around town and ensure your customers know you are ready to serve them.
Postcards – the most versatile of all products. Sale announcements, order cards, cards to say #missyou, direct mail or graduation announcements.-
Business Cards – great for loyalty cards, coupons, and of course traditional business cards.
Google My Business (Bing) – updates to your business hours, services and products can be easily added and updated. You can upload photos of your business for people to see. Can also post simple blog posts and announcements.
Blog – create content that people are looking and searching for. Become a resource for others.
Email Newsletter – keep contact with your clients, customers & prospects with useful information and offers
Outdoor Banner – hang a banner promoting that you’re open and advertise services you are open with…curbside pickup, delivery, and required entry procedures.
Window Graphics – works best for retail locations. Choose either see-through, cling or solid to present your message or special.
Door Hangers – great for door to door marketing. Especially for home service industries like plumbing, lawn care, roofing, and pool cleaning services.
Yard Signs – typically used for yard, parking, real estate, and election signs. Also used by roofers, painters and other service industries working in residential areas.
Rack Cards – great for takeout menus or one-use menus, you are not committed to an expensive tabletop menu.
Website Updates – update the homepage of your website to convey new information, products and services.
Technical SEO – perform a web audit to make sure you show up when people are looking for your products and services and then update as necessary.
